Maryland was an early adopter of the lottery, with ticket sales starting in 1973. Several popular games have been included in the Maryland lottery since its inception, and some big winners have been made, too. In 2012, a three-member lottery pool took home $656 million in Mega Millions!

Lottery proceeds help fund public health and safety, human resources, education and environmental initiatives. Billions of dollars have also been paid out to various state causes.

Did you win a prize in the latest MD lottery results? According to the Maryland Lottery, prizes can be claimed in person at several locations based on the prize amount.

• Prizes up to $600 can be claimed at an authorized lottery retailer or by mail.

• Prizes up to $5,000 can be claimed at an Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) retailer unless directed otherwise. 

• Winnings up to $25,000 can be claimed at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters or any of Maryland’s casinos at the cashier’s window. You must be at least 21 to claim your prize at a casino.

• Prizes of greater than $25,000 must be claimed at the Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore and will be paid by check. An appointment must be made to claim your winnings. See the lottery website to schedule your appointment online.

Prizes for draw games must be claimed within 182 days of the drawing date. Plan ahead if you plan to claim your prize by mail. The lottery office must receive tickets by the deadline.
